Share your inexhaustible voice.
“I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among the creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance. The poet's, the writer's, duty is to write about these things.”
~ William Faulkner

Populi Magazine is a forum for cultural and philosophical discussion as well as a venue for contemporary art and literature in Oxford, MS. Established in January, 2015 by the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, Populi serves to provoke and curate the inexhaustible voice of Oxonians. First and foremost, Populi Magazine is an academic journal that seeks to promote scholarly discourse on the University of Mississippi campus. Because any philosophical or cultural inquiry must acknowledge the artistic, even irrational element of the human condition, Populi also publishes works of poetry, fiction, and visual art by Ole Miss students and Oxford residents.
We publish two digital issues every year in the Spring and Fall and an annual print edition in January. Creative work is published online as it is received.
Submission to Populi Magazine is open to all citizens and students in Oxford, Mississippi. We publish essays that consider fundamental questions about our community. Please read one of our issues to get acquainted with the kind of work we have accepted in the past. The essays and creative work in Populi Magazine are intended to spark a public dialogue in Oxford, therefore we seek out diverse voices from every corner of the city.
Submitted articles undergo primary and secondary review by our staff. If chosen for publication, the work will be sent back to the author if necessary for fine tuning and will then be reviewed once more by the staff. This process helps uphold a high level of academic integrity at the magazine.
