Letter From the Editors
A semester in review
Since 2015, the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College has published Populi Magazine, with the intent to share stories of personal significance from Oxonians, encourage thoughtful conversation, and sharpen the creative minds that surround our town of Oxford, Mississippi.
This fall semester, we are delighted to publish contributions from several talented Ole Miss students. Our story this fall explores personality in nature – a quintessential beginning to any great Southern story, let alone from Oxford. We begin with poetry from our own Bethany Fitts, whose writing reminds us of Earth and the relationship we must form with it. We are taken across the South East by Olivia Johnson, as she flies, dives and drives through the golden haze of summer. Finally we glimpse the returning artwork of Jake Thrasher, Ali Chatham, and Cecilia Moseley, who capture raw likeness, colorful still life, and the picturesque South, respectively.
Come read, explore, and think with us, dear Reader as we continue to share just a few of the voices that make Oxford so special.
We would like to give a special thank you to Dean Douglass Sullivan-Gonzalez, the Honors College faculty and staff, as well as our fantastic contributors. Please enjoy the Fall 2017 edition of Populi Magazine.
